Inherited a House? Helping a Parent Move?
Clear, compassionate help for DeKalb County families.
When you inherit a house or help a parent move, family decisions and practical questions can arrive all at once. My job is the house part. If you decide to sell, I represent you—not the buyer.
Families Facing a House Decision
- You inherited a home and are unsure what to do with it.
- You are handling an estate and need a plan for the house.
- You are helping a parent move and deciding what happens to their home.
- You do not have to be a landlord to talk with me about an inherited house or a parent’s move.
Experience for This Moment
- I’ve been hands-on in real estate since 1997, a licensed Georgia real estate professional since 2005, and a broker since 2008.
- I am C.P.R.E.S.-certified and SRES®-designated.
- I have worked as a property owner, investor, property manager, and broker.
Five Steps Before You Decide
Here is the usual order. You don’t have to finish every step before calling me.
- First, protect the house. If it’s empty, lock it up, keep up the yard and utilities, and ask the insurer about coverage.
- Second, ask a probate attorney who has the legal right to make decisions or sell. Don’t sign anything until you know.
- Third, bring everyone in. Talk with each family member or co-owner before making a plan, and agree on the belongings before clearing the house.
- Fourth, look at the house. Is anyone living there? What condition is it in?
- Fifth, compare your options: keep it, fix it, or sell it as-is. A sale can move forward once your attorney confirms who can sign.
Three Possible Paths for the House
Keep It. If the home still fits your family’s needs and resources, keeping it may be the right decision.
Fix It. If a few changes would make the home easier to keep or more suitable to sell, we can discuss which improvements are worth considering.
Exit It. If selling is the right decision, I can represent you and bring the house to the open market in its current condition. As-is does not mean invisible to the market.
We can compare the time, work, and potential financial outcome of each path before you decide.
If You Decide to Sell, Here Is What I Do
- I listen first. We discuss the house, its condition, anyone living there, your goals, and your timing.
- I build a plan for presenting and pricing the house in its current condition.
- I represent you in the market, review offers with you, and help you compare more than the headline price.
- I coordinate the real estate transaction through closing while your attorney and CPA handle legal and tax matters.
Let’s Talk Through the House
You do not need every answer before reaching out. Tell me what is happening with the house and what you are trying to decide. We can start with a simple, no-pressure conversation.
On the contact form, choose Inherited property, Probate, or Helping a parent (or myself) with a senior move under “What’s your situation?” If you are still exploring, you can choose Just gathering information for timing.
You can also call me at (770) 764-0404. I help with the house and your real estate options; your attorney and CPA can advise you on legal and tax questions.
